Emergency and essential services need radio communications coverage from the Public Safety Network (PSN) to enable them to coordinate with each other and keep people safe. When normal outdoor PSN coverage is insufficient in areas such as commercial properties, recreational arenas, airports, train stations and tunnels, In-Building Coverage (IBC) solutions are considered.
For a telecommunications carrier, this generally refers to telephone access to 4G or 5G. NSW Telco Authority considers IBC in relation to supporting our emergency services organisations by enabling adequate indoor radio signal coverage across the Public Safety Network.
In addition to the IBC sites funded and built by NSW Telco Authority, developers of new public and private sector infrastructure projects often submit requests for IBC in their assets – third party sites.
